Memorizing and Meditating on Psalm 1:5 (And a short word from John Piper)

We are almost finished with memorizing and/or meditating on Psalm 1. Next week will be our final verse!

This week’s verse continues the serious warning for those who are living without God.

Psalm 1:5 (New International Version)
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

Psalm 1:5 (Amplified Bible) For meditation purposes.
Therefore the wicked [those disobedient and living without God] shall not stand [justified] in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous [those who are upright and in right standing with God].

Although I am not “enjoying” the message of the last half of Psalm 1, I appreciate the reminder of the seriousness of our choices when we choose not to follow God.

How are you doing?

  • If you are just now joining us, be sure to read the first three verses of Psalm 1 to get the full meaning of the last three verses of the Psalm.
  • Who do you need to pray for regarding their relationship with God? Has it been a while since you’ve prayed for the salvation of your unbelieving co-workers, relatives or friends?
  • When can you schedule time to spend with them to answer any questions they may have about God and eternity?
I will email you a copy of the weekly verses, formatted to fit a standard index card. Be sure to subscribe to this blog (via email) and leave a comment letting me know what Bible translation you prefer.

As a special treat, I have included (below) a special message from John Piper, which was uploaded onto YouTube Jan 18, 2009, titled, “The Value of Memorizing Scripture.” In this short message, he humbly, yet passionately, explains the benefits of memorizing scripture especially in regard to the spiritual battles we face (“Memorizing Scripture helps me to hit the devil in the face with a force he cannot resist!... and [the devil] hates you, and your family….!”).
