Philippians 1:6 (NKJV)

Philippians 1:6 (AMP)
And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.
Wendy stood at the large full-length mirror in her wedding gown with her bridesmaids. They talked excitedly as they prepped themselves for the very important day.
Okay, now as the mother-of-the-bride I should – should what? I panicked. I didn’t feel ready for this responsibility. Only a few months earlier I had begun my journey out of decades of severe chronic anxiety disorder.
I know I should be involved in some way – at least be saying something “motherly.” But I just stood there – almost unable to move or speak. It didn’t take much stress to send me into a panic attack. I took a deep breath and forced my feet to move as I walked across the room pretending to search for something in my purse.
Thankfully, my sister, Teri, entered the room. I mouthed “help” and unsuccessfully tried to stop my hands from shaking. Recognizing the situation, she tactfully coached me regarding what I needed to do for the next several hours.
Disappointed that I wasn’t where I wanted to be emotionally, I thanked God that at least I was better than I was a few months previously. A kind of peace surrounded me knowing I would be even stronger a few more months down the road. As I was learning to trust in His Word – rather than living by my emotions – I was confident that God was finally beginning His miracle helping me to be the stable person I prayed to be for so many years. And now, many years later I rejoice at His finished work! Well – almost finished work!
This week’s verse encourages us that God will never stop working in us to make us the person He has designed us to be. In fact, no matter what area in your life you’re struggling with, I firmly believe that as we yield to His grace to obey His Word, we will see Him perform dramatic changes in us.
Even when we don’t see changes as quickly as we would like, it’s nice to know He doesn’t quit on us, isn’t it? Especially when we’re about ready to give up on ourselves!
Okay, so …
• In what area do you need to trust God to finish His work in you? Will memorizing or meditating on this week’s verse help?
• Or do you need to ask God to begin to work as you set a goal to overcome a sinful behavior or habit?
• Are you willing to apply Philippians 1:6 for others, too?
